All the Impreza models from late 2001 up to 2010 can be re-flashed on the standard ECU. The standard ECU is a very capable piece of equipment, so providing you arenít wanting to get rid of the MAF, (Mass Air Flow sensor), or specifically need anti-lag, then this is the best solution for most.

Impreza Turbo 1997-2000

99-2001 Impreza are able to be re-flashed as standard too. However they have much more sensitive ECU chips, which result in a 5% failure rate of flashing these. As a result these can only be done through ECUTEK software. As ECUTEK will almost always cost the customer £550+vat, then our recommendation is to buy a secondhand Apexi Power FC LJetro ECU, which can be found for between £200-400 and then we can re-map this for you. This results in a much more capable and live-mappable ecu on the vehicle for approximately the same value as an ECUTEK flash. This is also applicable to the 1997-1998 Impreza which are not re-mappable at all.

Boost control is poor
Obsolete
Limited availability and support
Limited output and expandability

Impreza Turbo 1993-1996

ESL Daughter-board £660

1993-1996 Imprezas are not able to be re-flashed as standard. One of the more cost effective options are the ESL daughter board conversion. This converts the original ECU into a fully live mappable ecu. It retains the original cold start stratagies, with the expandability of a live mappable ecu.

Simtek ECUs are by far the best option all round for future expandability and support. Read more about them here.
